Tant Malie se Winkel Hartebeespoort
Overview of Tant Malie se Winkel
Tant Malie se Winkel has been around for ages, and you simply cannot
visit Hartebeespoort without stopping here at the infamous yellow truck. The restaurant
overflows with visitors coming to sample the authentic South African cuisine on
Sundays.
The kitchen is a fireplace outside under the trees, with a wonderful atmosphere
and a menu featuring Traditional Afrikaner food and other treats.
The Tant Malie se Winkel shop has a variety of truly South African
goodies like bokkoms, melktert, and gingerbeer (gemmerbier), fresh baked break,
and a collection of curious to buy.
Review of Tant Malie se Winkel
Although we didn't eat at the restaurant, it looks like it could
be a treat! The kitchen is outside under the trees and takes the form of a "braai-restaurant",
where you can select your own meat cuts and braai it in your own exclusive braai
facility and then enjoy with salads and pap-en-sous (pap and sauce).
The shop was a little bit a of a let down unfortunately. Although all the traditional
South African delicacies like gingerbeer, delicious milktart, traditional boerebeskuit
(rusks) and fresh bread were available, the rest of the shop didn't have much to
look at. The little animal farm outside could also use a loving touch.
But, as all tourists to Hartbeespoort will tell you, no visit to Hartbeespoort is
complete without stopping at the landmark truck, and Tant Malie se Winkel!
