National Heritage Objects and Sites

National Heritage Sites and Objects in South Africa are objects or collections formally declared as such by the South African Heritage Resource Agency, in order to control their export, and to encourage historic preservation and appreciation.

The Decleration does not restrict the sale or ownership of these objects. Archeological, paleontological material and meteorites are exempt form decleration as such objects may not be bought, sold, or owned.

Heritage sites are divided into National Heritage sites, and Provincial Heritage sites.

This list contains some of the main National Heritage sites, but is by no means 100% complete.
